Junior round up - week ending 22nd May

23 May 2022

Another week, more rain interruptions and for the week ending 22nd May 2022 we were disappointed to lose two games to rain; namely the Monday under 14s vs. our Carlton pals and one of the Friday under 12s…but flipping weather ensured that Carlton travelled before it was abandoned.

However, 6 gallant under 15s who didn’t have exams travelled down to Galashiels to join our pals there for a mixed team game.  “Livi + 3” restricted “Gala – 3” to 96 off 17 overs but were not able to get to that total, falling short at 91.  Many thanks once again to our hosts for a friendly welcome and cracking cricket in one of the most picturesque grounds around.  Shout out to Adit for another solid opening batting spell: 20 off 20 balls and retired.

Under 12s had a great net session on the Wednesday (maybe not enough fielding training) and two teams were made available on the Friday, home and away against Carlton.  As previously mentioned, the game at Dresselrigg was rain ruined, but we managed a full game with one rain interruption at Grange Loan.

Livi hit just the 68 with Matthew hitting a huge 6 which scared a few, and Dani and Josh batting nicely hitting some lovely 4s.  In response, Carlton took advantage of the wayward Livi bowling and surpassed the total by about 96 runs.

This was all a dress rehearsal for the big game against Callander in the under 15s ECB Vitality Cup.  Rain (which wasn’t forecast) threatened to ruin a good day, but having won the toss, Livi scored 140 runs in their 20 overs.  Highlights were Adit and Matthew with a 100+ partnership, Matthew retiring on 50 off 32 balls for his maiden half century and Adit getting to jug avoidance territory.

In response, Livi started brightly with Alex removing their opener first ball and then wickets were shared amongst players including Adit and Zuhair and there was a collectors item catch for Abuzar.  Shout out to Vivaan who bowled 4 overs for very few on his big boy ball / full pitch length debut.

Also shout out to Callander skipper Ryan who bowled and batted brilliantly and led his spirited team who in the end fell short but played in the right manner.

Next week, we seem to be playing Carlton at Under 14s, under 18s, under 16s and under 12s…weather and exams allowing…and then the big ‘un sees the under 13s travel to Falkland for the ECB Vitality Cup match on Sunday 29th, 1000 start.
